The Briarpatch
September 2012 AS XLVII
POPULACE MEETING
There were 14 members of the shire present for the meeting.
OFFICERS REPORTS
GOLD KEY:
All of our loaner garb is safe and accounted for. Renee's term is up, but nobody has volunteered to step into the position.
LISTS:
Candace had nothing to report. She is vacating her position and needs someone to take over the Lists office.
KNIGHT MARSHAL:
For Fighter practice, some of the populace showed up. There were many interested parties asking questions. We've had three fighters and one visitor at practice, Jimmy defender of Corvaria. The demo at the Melon Festival was very successful and we had 75 children participate in the “Fight a Knight” charity fund drive. Mark hopes to get his publication, Briaroak's Best, out on a bi-monthly or quarterly basis. He would like some help in raising funds for a pell project. There was a discussion about the season change and what that would mean for fighter practice. Normally, we shut down for the Winter. Alternates discussed to keep practice going was finding a school or a place at the V.A. to hold practice.
THROWN WEAPONS MARSHAL:
There is still training going on.
ARTS & SCIENCES:
No present, no current report.
EXCHEQUER:
David is now the contingency exchequer. Starting balance was $4,618.04. We have $2,463.00 in outstanding checks. There was a deposit made in the amount of $3,188.87. Current balance is $5,343.03. Candace Putman is stepping up as as Exchequer as soon as the bank account information is changed. All parties on the account will need to sign again after it has all been processed.
ARCHERY MARSHAL:
There was a rushed tournament at Coronet and Viscountess Ceridwen Ferch Morgan won. The archery equipment is still in Kye's possession.
CHAMBERLAIN:
She had nothing to report this month.
WEBMINISTER:
He is working on re-designing the website.
CHATELAINE:
The Demo went great, with many fliers being handed out and much Q & A time with people and we raised $75.00 for the SPCA charity fund drive. Two people came to Coronet to check our group out after seeing us at the Melon Festival and more fliers were handed out at Coronet.
CHRONICLER:
Due to illness she could not attend. Her office is being filled by Humphrey Bumblefoot.
SENESCHAL:
He needs a deputy to stay in compliance. The current deputy would like to move on to the scribe position. A brief came down from Principality/Kingdom that all officers, deputies and defenders require an active membership to hold their offices and titles. Defenders are lesser officers of the Court and defenders are not allowed to hold officer positions with the branch or Principality. You cannot hold more than one defendership. Branch events must have a Chirurgeon in charge. The trailer Paul offered for sale is not available until Winter, if then. Amy will continue to remind Paul of the offer and our need to purchase it.
EVENTS
CORONET
The event report was presented by Julie. There were a few problems. Much thanks to Tina Bartelome, Christiana, for the excellent job she did on the childrens activities. Also applause was given to both Julie for her excellent work as event steward and Mike Putman for merchant coordinator and his heraldry work. There were twenty-two fighters in the Coronet tournament, two contestants in the Archery tournament and three contestants in the Bardic competition. Other items mentioned were that Lynnet had taken home the Briaroak signs to return to Brian when she could manage. Everyone loved the new banner. Congratulations to our newest Lord, Robrecht de Greyt who received his AoA at Coronet. Our new Tanist and Tanista are Luciano Foscari and Elizabeth de Carlisle.
BIRL
The event is officially on the kingdom calendar. Mikayla has become the Co-steward. The Alpine Heirs have been invited and their dietary restrictions have been discussed with the feast steward. The grocery need list was passed around to alleviate the cost of purchasing the ingredients. Up for discussion was the possibility of using up the old site tokens instead of creating new ones. Mike has volunteered to do a herald consultation/class for Birl. It was suggested that the Coronet Bardic champion, Salbella, be contacted for period dance activities. The event steward is still looking for teachers to fill two other classes and they are planning a treasure hunt to get people to mingle more and get to know each other better. Carmelle has a prize suitable for children to donate to the childrens activities. A request was made that purchases requiring reimbursement be held off until January 1, 2013, for reporting reasons. The event steward was reminded about doing a fundraiser and she will consider options. The EIR is going in this week.
BASH
Mark Potter volunteered to autocrat Bash 2013 and he will be preparing a proposal with a budget. He was reminded that our current site may require a rental charge in 2013. Bash 2013 will include the Summits Archery championship tournament and the Captain of the Eagles. Note to all: Keep an eye and ear out for possible alternate sites for Birl and Bash.
OTHER BUSINESS
As principality Herald, Mike is expected to hold a Principality Heraldic Symposium and he is starting to think and plan for one. The shire property still needs to be gone through and the extraneous items weeded out. Brian offered his shop to do it at if all of us can agree on a day to do it. In loving service to the DREAM,
